OUR LAVENDER

WHAT A PHENOMENAL PLANT!

We grow a variety of lavender that was developed right here in the Northeast, called PHENOMENAL. It was developed by Peace Tree Farm in Pennsylvania:

One of the hardiest lavenders seen throughout Europe and the United States, Phenomenal has exceptional winter survival and tolerance to extreme heat and humidity. It’s also resistant to common root and foliar diseases making it a great choice for so many environments!

LAVENDER: WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

The Phenomenal variety is a great all-purpose lavender:

~ DRIED BUNCHES ~ The color and scent hold up for years in the right conditions (out of direct sunlight and humidity), so it’s wonderful for dried lavender bouquets, sachet bags, wreaths, and any dried lavender craft you come up with.

~ CULINARY ~ The flavor of this variety is also the best we’ve tried, with the perfect balance of minty and floral. It tastes amazing in sweet & sour treats like lemon bars and lavender lemonade. Come out to the farm this summer to try our homemade lavender treats!

~ ESSENTIAL OIL ~ At the end of the u-pick season we harvest all remaining lavender to make essential oil. We’ve found that this variety has a more earthy scent than what you might find in a typical lavender essential oil, which we love! We have a handcrafted copper distiller in the field, and we try to make a batch of oil each day during the u-pick season so visitors can see the process. Message us here or on social media for details!

HOW WE GROW IT

We don’t put anything at all on our plants; no chemicals, herbicides, insecticides, nothing! While we aren’t certified organic, our plants are definitely “organic” in every other way possible. This means that the lavender you bring home from Lavenwood is always edible and safe to use in skincare products. (Just keep all lavender away from cats, as it can be toxic!)
